Staring At People (Ft. Andrea), another video from the Whatever channel. You’ll notice a lot of guys who are quite shy and perhaps find Andreas presence intimidating. Asking Guys For Sex is also worth checking out, but here’s my commentary on the above video.
0:12 Guy has a good smile, that smile helped him lose his virginity.
0:25 He knows she’s looking at him, he turns his head to see if he’ll have an audience for when he introduces himself. This guy’s natural instinct before chatting to a girl is who’s watching? I feel he was scanning the room for an alpha male who would potentially out class him (I’m guilty of this), once he saw the coast was clear he went in for the hand shake.
0:54 Is it uncouth for a pretty white girl to impose her presence on a colored girl in America? How rich is the cultural subtext here?
1:30 Girl is mesmerized by Andrea.
1:55 Common issue with communication in general, people think you have to fill silences, you don’t, his response of “can I help you” was uncomfortably too soon. His Initial eye contact which is broken by moving the eyes down is a clear sign of submission. It’s not only the eyes but he almost bows his head and feigns a state of busyness as if Andrea was a dominant team manager.
2:18 Girl is crushing hard, Andreas boldness is clearly inciting her and she’s giggling as if they’re old friends. Andrea could have tapped that.
2:46 Another awkward guy, I don’t blame them really, this doesn’t happen very often. The breaking of eye contact downwards is a common theme, the way he darts his eyes back to his laptop has the same immediacy of an office worker hastily closing a facebook screen as a boss walks past the cubicle. To me this is all synonymous with not wanting to break the status-quo, it’s being too careful not to rustle anyones feathers through your life. Andrea is rustling feathers in this video and as a result the other party gives her authority. However, this guy steps up to play a little.
3:02 This guy doesn’t seek her approval or feel the need to break the tension with laughter, when he asks “can I help you?” he actually means it. I would describe his strong yet low energy as a nonchalant masculinity, he beats her at her own game.
What this video has almost done is highlight the near innate fear guys have of being in the presence of a beautiful girl, and that the shallow process of ‘appearing’ like a man means shit if you can’t simply relax. I think I’m placing emphasis on the guy at 1:55, need a video with more of them. Anyway, that angle could have been shown if she approached outside of a library where there’s a wider demographic.
Andrea is naturally beautiful, she knows it and doesn’t play it up either. She’s not only confident but she’s comfortable being herself, this is shown in other videos where’s actually talking. I’m banking she’s aiming for an acting career, these prank channels are widely becoming CV’s for aspiring actors. Overall, her boldness is polarizing. I imagine many girls being extremely drawn to her positive energy or bitter from their own inability to live so free. Nothing earns society’s contempt like having a good time.
